Born and raised in Los Angeles to South American immigrants, David showed a penchant for the arts at an early age. Constantly drawing throughout grade school and high school, it was no surprise that after his high school graduation, at the age of 17, he was to leave to Florence, Italy and pursue traditional training in a city that had once spawned the Renaissance.
David's primary focus lies in the figure where he strives to use a high level of craftsmanship and imbue his work with a poetic and contemporary aesthetic. David has been influenced by the Academic Impressionist and Symbolist of the 19th century but also holds a deep admiration for the masters of the 17th century.
Today, David Alvarado works out of his studio in the MiracleMile area of Los Angeles. Creating images of the natural and imaginative world, his work allows him to constantly explore new places in a time-tried technique, inviting the viewer to see nature in diverse ways.
